The IOU Hebden Bridge Hostel is set in stunning woodland and gardens in the vibrant town of Hebden Bridge, close to the Pennine Way.

We are proud to be Yorkshire’s only independent self-catering vegetarian hostel. With excellent transport links, the Hostel offers contemporary comfortable and affordable accommodation across 14 ensuite rooms.

A beautiful hostel set within a stunning town. The facilities were amazing and it was a really pleasant surprise to have tea, coffee and cereal provided. The hostel was pristine. The check in was easy  – this was a 5 star stay!!!! We stayed in many  hostels along our Pennine Way hike and your hostel was by far the best. Some hostels provided no bedding options or  not so much as a tea bag, which was poor and at substantially greater cost.  You guys sum up what hosteling should be like – keep it up

Newly refurbished hostel, what a lovely stay!

A welcoming, stylish and comfortable venue for our overnight on the Pennine Cycleway bike trip. Very clean, well organised and comfortable room, common lounge and self – catering kitchen, this last thoughtfully provided with basics like teabags. Only 5 minutes walk down to ‘town’ (10 minutes back, this is Hebden Bridge!) and good advice from Jill on ‘where to eat’. Great place, will return.

Fantastic hostel, great location a short steep walk up from the centre of Hebden Bridge.

Lovely staff and well-designed 4 bed rooms with plenty of space. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want to visit the Calder valley

This hostel was absolutely one of the best experiences I’ve had travelling...

..and with a beautiful town just down the hill it is a lovely experience. The hostess was absolutely incredible going above and beyond in all ways! Me and my friend couldn’t be more thankful! She is the embodiment of the kind northern spirit that we are not used to down south 🤣💕

It certainly won't be my last time here!!

After a long stomp over the misty moors from Oxenhope via Gorple and Heptonstall, it was nice to get such a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. Comfortable en-suite room meant I slept like a log!!
My first time in a hostel (I usually go b&b or hotel) but it certainly won’t be my last time here!!

TOYLAB takes old toys destined for landfill or incineration and saves them turning them into new unique creatures with their own stories letting participants imagination and creativity run free

All materials provided however if you have any broken toys you would like to bring please do! Suitable for all ages but children must be accompanied at all times

Kamishibai, (kah-mee-she-bye) or “paper-theater,” is said to have started in Japan as street theatre in the late 1920s, but it is part of a long tradition of picture storytelling, beginning as early as the 9th or 10th centuries

This Making It workshop will open the door to creating short stories that mix illustration with narration in vivid and imaginative ways. You will be shown the skills and stages to create a kamishibai story and then present it in the kamishibai theatre style box.

Wildflower Retreats

Wildflower Retreats are a new venture run by two LGBTQ+ women living in Hebden Bridge

This autumn they are offering two 6 night retreats at Hebden Bridge Hostel for LGBTQ+ women who have a passion for walking and/or writing or both!

The retreat will consist of 2 hour daily writing workshops and in the afternoon guided walks in stunning locations, led by walking guide, Sib Procter  including walks in and around Shibden Hall (Anne Lister/Gentleman Jack), Haworth and the Parsonage, home of the Bronte sisters, as well as Heptonstall and moorlands treading the paths of Sylvia Plath.

The Hostel is set within dramatic hills, rivers, waterfalls and wooded valleys as is the friendly market town of Hebden Bridge. Our town is famous for its literary connections, LGBTQ community, its many pubs, restaurants, coffee houses, independent shops and cinema, canal and marina, and not forgetting iconic music venue The Trades Club, we could go on but ultimately we hope you are going to come and experience it all for yourselves.

Situated within ten minutes walking distance of Hebden Bridge in a peaceful woodland setting, nestled into the hillside just above the town and part of the historic Birchcliffe Centre.

Accommodation

With fourteen generously sized ensuite bedrooms, sleeping up to forty, choose from a budget dorm bed or a private room to whole lets for groups conferences, retreats and schools. 

The Hostel also has one ground floor fully accessible double room with ensuite including wheelchair accessible shower.

Facilities

The Hostel has a large dining room and function space as well as cosy snug.  The self catering vegetarian kitchen is well equipped with ovens, fridges and a dishwasher, plus all the crockery, cutlery and utensils needed to make breakfast or an evening meal.

All bed linen is provided and towels can be hired for a small charge. Free WiFi is available throughout the Hostel.
